9 Covenants With God - Promises, Seals, Cutting, Takeaways

by Tonja Taylor
10/28/2025 / Bible Study.   These are the 9 Covenants of the Bible, in order (from what I learned very recently in Bible college):

Edenic Covenant

  • Made before the fall
  • The enemy attacked the terms of this covenant, and steals the Blessing
  • Promises: to prosper mankind, with The Blessing (“Be fruitful and multiply…”)
    • And TO RULE (“have dominion over (all creatures)”…”subdue the earth” and “tend the Garden and keep it” (have ownership and jobs)
  • Cutting: The blood of the Edenic Covenant is when God opened Adam’s side to bring forth Eve, like Jesus shed His blood on the cross (the Tree of Life) to bring forth His Bride, the Church.
  • Seal: Tree of Life
  • Takeaway: God is so very creative and generous and faithful. He created the perfect Place in the Garden for mankind to live, and Blessed them, for a long and happy life—most of all, with the Glory of God; with His Presence. They were privileged to get to walk and talk with Him intimately, with nothing ever separating them!

Adamic Covenant:

  • Made after the fall of Adam and Eve
  • Promises: Genesis 3 (Seed of the woman)
    • First of the “seed” covenants; first of the covenants of Redemption
    • Includes judgment on sin (The Flood) and foretells coming of Messiah
  • Cutting: Blood was shed when God killed an animal to cover them
  • Seal: the Tree of Life
  • Takeaway: How gracious, merciful, thoughtful, and generous is our Father God, Who knew before the fall that it would happen—and Who made a way for them to be redeemed, foreshadowing The Way, JESUS, for us to be redeemed from death and sin! Hallelujah!

Noahic Covenant:

  • Promises: Genesis 6-9; made to re-establish the purpose of the Edenic Covenant
    • The words of this covenant is a blessing; Genesis 6:18
    • Made with Noah, after the flood, with mankind and the animals, that the earth would never again be destroyed by a flood
  • Cutting: He sacrificed many animals that he brought for that purpose
  • Seal: Rainbow
  • Takeaway: God, in His infinite knowledge and provision, is holy; always has a Remnant that He preserves no matter what; and is always with us in “the flood” of our lives—and, when we stick with Him, always brings us out on the top! Glory!

Abrahamic Covenant

  • Promises: Made with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; 3-in-1 like the Holy Trinity
    • Jesus operated out of this covenant
    • The Jews’ Homeland is added to this covenant
    • This covenant can never be annulled; is unconditional and unending
    • This covenant is in full effect for me, in every way
    • God said, “I will bless those that bless you; I will curse him (enemy) who curses you.”
    • Most comprehensive of all the O.T. covenants – to all Believers of all nations
  • Cutting and Seal: The outward sign/seal of this covenant was circumcision
  • The only curse in this covenant is against the enemy!
  • Takeaway: Wow, that God opened up the Covenant to us (former) Gentiles, so we could become children of God!

Mosaic Covenant:

  • Promises: Given at Mt. Sinai because of the sins of Israel; complex and most difficult of all covenants
    • Made ONLY with the chosen people of Israel; not with Gentiles
    • Meant to be instructions for a nation in need of a Savior
    • The law (apart from Grace); focuses on “Thou shalt NOT!”
    • Prepared the way for the better New Covenant of Grace
    • Given to set forth standards of righteousness, with a clear definition of sin
    • Meant to expose the guilt and deceitfulness of Israel
  • Cutting and Seal: circumcision and 10 Commandments
    • Curse was added in this covenant; Zipporah circumcised their son
  • This covenant did not annul the Abrahamic Covenant!
  • Takeaway: Praise God, we live under Grace now, and, when we confess our sins, the LORD our Father through Jesus Christ is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness! Hallelujah!

Land Covenant:

  • Promises: God adds the Jews’ Homeland to the Abrahamic covenant
    • Given in Moab, after 40 years of wandering by the Israelites, to the second generation
    • First generation refused to possess the Land, died in unbelief
    • First generation did not enter promised rest
  • Cutting: The death of first generation, who did not believe
  • Seal: 2 parts: early and latter rains/Jubilee years
  • Laws of the Land are in Leviticus
  • Takeaway: The Land given to Israel’s is their’s and their’s alone! No one else anywhere has any right to it!

Davidic Covenant

  • Promises: David worshiped the LORD and was promised always his seed would rule
    • Conferred after the death of King Saul
    • Points to the Messiah; to His Rule and Reign, showcasing what’s coming
    • Amplifies the Abrahamic Covenant; promises land and victory
    • Picture of Messiah’s first and second Coming
    • Told to Abraham where he will possess the gates of his enemies
    • The final Seed promise/covenant
  • Cutting: David’s child with Bathsheba died, and radical sacrifices by David and the people
  • Seal: Restoring praise and worship; David worshiped God radically
  • Takeaway: The LORD is restoring praise and worship to His people, which is extremely powerful! The LORD always keeps His Word, and made a way for the Royal Seed of Jesus to be seated, through David’s line, as promised.

New Covenant:

  • Promises: Focuses on Grace by Faith with the Father, Who says, “I will…”
    • The Bible started with a wedding and ends with a wedding, the Marriage Supper of the Lamb!
    • Jesus made Covenant with the Father, and we get to partake of His sacrifice and victory!
    • Blessings on Gentiles, of healings; miracles; Holy Spirit; Resurrection/Eternal Life!
    • Will usher in the Everlasting Covenant—that we are justified by Faith!
    • Grace and Truth; no additives, no preservatives; irrevocable and unconditional
    • Gives us direct eternal connection with The Father of Grace!
    • Fulfillment of all previous covenants
    • Christ Jesus is the New Covenant! Jesus + nothing = EVERTHING!
  • Cutting: Jesus shed His blood on the cross
  • Seal: the Holy Spirit gives us an internal Standard, with Grace to keep it
  • Takeaway: We are new creations in Christ! We are eternal beings; spirits, one with Christ, and joint-Heirs with Him, through the all-encompassing mercy and agape Love of our Father, and the sacrifice of LORD Jesus, our soon-returning King! Hallelujah!

Eternal Covenant:

Hallelujah!
